Disinfection with chickens present: Conducted while the flock is inside the house; low-irritant disinfectants are selected, and droplet size is controlled to prevent respiratory tract damage.

Empty-house disinfection: Comprehensive and thorough spraying performed after the flock has been removed; may be combined with high-potency disinfectants such as formaldehyde.

Entrance disinfection: Surface disinfection of personnel or vehicles as they pass through a spray tunnel.
